I had a class last weekend with work in Salt Lake. My bike hitched a ride and insisted on seeing some fall color. It's been a good bike, so I obliged.
I'm ashamed to say I had never rode the Utah classic Wasatch Crest Trail before. Most people shuttle this from Guardsman Pass but I decided to park at the bottom of Mill D Fork and do a loop up Little Cottonwood Canyon Road to Guardsman Pass, up Puke Hill, follow the Crest, pass Desolation Lake and come back down to the bottom of Mill D.

Above: the infamous "spine." Bikers congregate here to see who dares to try and ride it. Out of about 10 riders I saw on this section, only one guy tried it (he survived). Most walked it. I mustered up enough courage to take the easier line just to left (and I survived...barely).

Total numbers for the Crest: 16 miles and 3200' of climbing in 2.5 hours.
I also had a quick ride on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail near Corner Canyon in Draper. Not much of anything still living in those hills after the fire. You can expect mudslides in this area in the future.
