I was a little worried about it, but I was able to drive into Kanab afterward with about an 1/8 of a tank to spare.TK421https://www.blogger.com/profile/17840234551821423029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866903923681224940.post-68417641609795438052011-07-29T23:38:27.965-06:002011-07-29T23:38:27.965-06:00Hi, I was reading your post about driving from Hil...Hi, I was reading your post about driving from Hilsdale to Toroweap to Shaman's and then presumably out via Fredonia. Did you need extra gas cans to do that or does your truck have that range on roads like that. I have a 99 4Runner.
Thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866903923681224940.post-88537799295895522052011-03-08T09:00:08.673-07:002011-03-08T09:00:08.673-07:00Ah, Tuweep. Fun to go down, but a bear to climb back up.

About twenty years ago I went with some family and camped at the bottom. That afternoon and night it rained like gangbusters up on the rim and provided us with a spectacular waterfall draining from the old pioneer reservoir north of Vulcan's throne.Johnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13688831260913101283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866903923681224940.post-85683124877246045482011-02-27T10:56:54.950-07:002011-02-27T10:56:54.950-07:00Toroweap is at about 4400 feet above sea level whi...Toroweap is at about 4400 feet above sea level which is a couple 1000 feet lower than the more popular Grand Canyon tourist spots. Therefore snow doesn't stick long, making Toroweap the preferred place to enjoy the GC in winter. You must go during a dry spell though, since the dirt roads getting there can get plenty of rain and snow making the road impassible. It had been dry for about 10 days before I went, and road conditions were perfect -- no mud, just a little dust. Always call the BLM in St. George and ask about road conditions before heading out. I think it was near freezing in the morning when I was there, but it warmed up quickly and by noon is was 50 degrees or so -- very pleasant. It would be even warmer if you hike down to the river.TK421https://www.blogger.com/profile/17840234551821423029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866903923681224940.post-15725749219401842072011-02-27T08:58:37.789-07:002011-02-27T08:58:37.789-07:00Great pics and a nice trip. But I came in from the north/west on a road that branches off of Cottonwood Canyon Rd, rather than go through Big Water.TK421https://www.blogger.com/profile/17840234551821423029noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4866903923681224940.post-16165212525988548862011-02-26T12:27:07.366-07:002011-02-26T12:27:07.366-07:00Hey Tyler, I did Toroweap the week before!
